1. Introduction
SwishTelecoms US, a division of Swish World Group Inc., provides Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, including access to Enhanced 911 (E911) emergency calling. This disclosure outlines the limitations and important information regarding the use of E911 with our VoIP services.
2. How E911 Works with VoIP
Unlike traditional landline 911 services, VoIP E911 relies on internet connectivity and requires an up-to-date registered location. When you dial 911 using SwishTelecoms VoIP services:
- Your call will be routed to the nearest emergency response center based on your registered address.
- Emergency operators will receive your phone number and registered location, if available.
- You must confirm your location if prompted by the emergency dispatcher.
3. Limitations of VoIP E911
VoIP-based 911 services may not function the same as traditional 911 due to the following:
- Power Outages: If there is a power failure, your VoIP service (including E911) will not work unless you have backup power.
- Internet Disruptions: E911 depends on an active broadband internet connection. If your internet is down, you cannot place 911 calls.
- Location Accuracy: Users must keep their registered address current, as VoIP 911 services rely on this data for accurate emergency routing.
- Device Relocation: If you move your VoIP device to a different address without updating your registered location, emergency responders may be dispatched to the wrong address.
- Service Interruptions: Account suspensions, non-payment, or network failures may affect your ability to dial 911.
4. User Responsibilities
To ensure proper E911 functionality, users must:
- Provide and update their physical address through the SwishTelecoms customer portal or by contacting support.
- Use backup power solutions to maintain service during power outages.
- Inform all users of the VoIP service about potential E911 limitations.
- Not rely solely on VoIP for emergency calling and consider alternative communication methods, such as mobile phones.
5. Liability Disclaimer
SwishTelecoms US is not liable for any service failures, incorrect emergency routing, or unavailability of E911 services due to technical limitations beyond our control. Users assume all risks associated with VoIP-based 911 calling.
